Richard Bailey, Glasstire:

Another Kirkman painting, Book Painting with Tea Stain, shows a book page with very faint lines. These lines indicate columns of text, but the signs are scarcely visible—here and there, we find a letter. The text is an absent form of presence, and the painting is perhaps a consideration for the long stretches of nothingness, all the patience and searching required to align signs into a language that rings true.
